Pastor's Study

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

From the February 2020 Newsletter:

Dear ORLC Family,

Shortly we will begin a new phase in our church life. We will begin this module; Serving in God’s Mission: Strategic Planning for Congregations. It will be a chance for us to look again at our purpose in this community and our vision as we go forward together. Here is a summary,

Overview Serving in God’s Mission provides a comprehensive, consensus-based approach for guiding your congregation through a strategic planning process tailored to meet the unique needs of Lutheran congregations. The overall goal of SGM is to assist your congregation with developing a strategic planning mindset that goes beyond putting a plan together to integrating a Strategic Ministry Plan into the planning and management of your congregation’s role in God’s Mission.

The expected outcomes of SGM include:

• A working knowledge of the strategic planning process and its supporting tools

• Achieving consensus in the congregation at each stage of strategic planning

• A realistic, meaningful, and useful Strategic Ministry Plan

I think one of the things I have struggled with as your pastor in these past few years is feeling like we are locked into a schedule where we do the same things year after year without critically looking at those things and asking ourselves if they still make sense in the new community in which we live. Planning for the future, making choices about youth, cross-cultural and intergenerational ministry is something I very much want to do but I am not sure we have all together looked into the future and listened to God and aligned our ideas with His plan for us. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (Proverbs 16:3)

We have a rich history. We have had our ups and downs but my greatest concern for our church is that we are a rich viable Christ loving church for the next 50 years. I hope that we can at least look forward a few years and create a plan for us to get there. In the next few weeks we will begin a new bible study starting on February 2nd. It will continue all the way through Easter. I will make sure that all the sessions will be available online if you miss any Sundays. It will be an opportunity for us to talk about all these issues and asking good questions. I humbly beseech you to join us for this study. If you consider this church your home than you are the target audience. If you want your opinion known, then you need to be part of that study. I hope that we can together come to consensus and a new vision forwards into the future. I hope that I will be a part of all of that with all of you.

In Christ,

Rev. Drevlow
